The Man of Steel might be the next Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Henry Cavill is reportedly in talks to take over the lead role in the big screen adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. for Warner Bros. If he takes the part, then the actor will be attached to no less than two huge properties for the studio.
The Wrap is reporting that the Man of Steel star would play Napoleon Solo in director Guy Ritchie’s project. The role suddenly became vacant after Tom Cruise decided to leave the project in order to film Mission Impossible 5 . Armie Hammer is still attached to co-star in the flick.
The folks at Warner Bros. are said to be pretty happy with Cavill’s turn in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel . They’re so confident of the actor’s abilities that they’re willing to consider him for the lead in another of the studio’s possible franchises.
If the latest Superman endeavor becomes the worldwide success everyone is hoping it will be, Cavill’s name could help bring moviegoers into theaters for the Man from U.N.C.L.E. flick.
Variety explains that the 60s television series has been in development for quite some time at Warner Bros. Before Guy Ritchie boarded the project, the adaptation was in the capable hands of Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney. However, budgetary problems prevent it from getting off the ground.
Once Cavill inks a deal with the studio for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. , Ritchie hopes to begin production this fall. Should everything go according to Warner’s master plan, the flick should arrive in theaters at some point next year.
Starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, the television series followed the adventures of two secret agents for United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. The duo often found themselves battling against the evil forces of THRUSH.
What do you think about Henry Cavill signing on for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. ? Do you think he’s the right guy for the role?
