Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed Put Nina Dobrev Rumors To Rest At Comic-Con, Plus He Sounds Off On The End Of ‘TVD’

Ian Somerhalder’s reunion with Nina Dobrev has enticed fans ever since the actresses’ exit from The Vampire Diaries in Season 6.

Unfortunately, the chances of Dobrev returning to the hit show are now slim. Does this open the door for Nikki Reed to make a cameo in Season 8?

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry , Somerhalder and Dobrev dated while working on The Vampire Diaries together. However, their off-screen love affair ended in 2013, and Dobrev soon left the show for good.

Dobrev’s exit didn’t stop fans from hoping that she would return some day and reunite with Somerhalder. With Season 8 being the final season for The Vampire Diaries , many expected Dobrev to make one final outing before the end.

In fact, even creator Julie Plec admitted that she wanted to bring Dobrev back in the series finale.

“In my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job achieving that,” Plec shared. “So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”

Of course, Celeb Dirty Laundry is reporting that Plec recently shared a few photos from the set of Season 8, and none of them include Dobrev.

Interestingly, Somerhalder’s wife was in one of the images Plec shared on Instagram . Does this mean Reed has a part in Season 8?

Reed’s participation in the new season of The Vampire Diaries has not been confirmed. While her presence in Plec’s photos is interesting, she could have simply been accompanying Ian Somerhalder.

At the same time, Dobrev’s involvement in Season 8 has not been confirmed nor denied, making a reunion still possible.

Meanwhile, according to E! Online , Plec officially confirmed the end of The Vampire Diaries during San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend.

Shortly after the announcement, Somerhalder shared what the show has meant over the past seven years.

“The sun, the moon and stars aligned for me one day in March when I got the official call that I had been cast in this very special role as Damon Salvatore,” he told fans.

“I’m so very grateful to those who fought for me to have this opportunity (you know who you are), for those that have worked so hard to make this show happen, and to those that have loyally watched it, making it part of their lives. This show has enriched my life greater than anything I’ve done in my career and it will live in my heart. We are a family, and I will miss you. Thank you again to this amazing cast and crew, Kevin, Julie, Warner Bros., The CW and the most loyal fan base the world has ever seen. Wow, what a ride.”

According to Pop Sugar , Reed joined Somerhalder at Comic-Con. The pair took some time to pose for photos and even shared a quick snapshot with Kat Graham.

Somerhalder’s co-star in the series, Paul Wesley, also explained how the show changed his life and thanked everyone involved for a great run over the years.

“Being cast in The Vampire Diaries has changed the trajectory of my life, to say the very least,” Wesley stated. “I’m beyond fortunate for the experiences I’ve had and lessons I’ve learned over the last seven years… I am beyond grateful to have been a part of it.”

The final season of The Vampire Diaries will include 16 episodes. Hopefully, Dobrev will find the time to appear in the finale and give fans the reunion they’ve always wanted.

Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries is set to start Oct. 21 on The CW.
