Long hinted at and finally confirmed just days ago, Adele is the voice behind James Bond’s latest film outing Skyfall .
The track, named “Skyfall” after the film itself, has been highly anticipated online since its announcement. Previews of the track were previously released, with the full track’s debut landing today. Though it may come as no surprise, Adele’s Bond track sound pretty good. The British singer adds stunning talent to a decidedly retro theme, more reminiscent of Bond films past than Bond films most recent. People reports that some are already comparing Adele’s new Bond song to the styling of Dame Shirley Bassey, who recorded the “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds Are Forever” themes.
The song does indeed pluck some nostalgic chords for long-time Bond fans.
Talking about the experience of recording the theme for Skyfall , Adele said :
“I was a little hesitant at first … There’s a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song,” said the singer. “But I fell in love with the script, and Paul [Epworth] had some great ideas for the track, and it ended up being a bit of a no-brainer to do it in the end.”
Adele also thinks that the opportunity to record a Bond song is a milestone in her career that she won’t soon forget:
“I’ll be back combing my hair when I’m 60 telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day, I’m sure,” she jokes.
Adele follows in the immediate footsteps of Jack White and Alicia Keys who contributed “Another Way to Die” for 2008s Quantum of Solace and Chris Cornell who recorded “You Know My Name” for 2006s Casino Royale .
Skyfall opens on November 9 in the US. Listen to Adele’s “Skyfall” below!
