Former GOP head cheerleader Mitch McConnell has been booted from the Republican establishment this week, after refusing to “stand with” Ted Cruz over the Obamacare government shutdown fight.
While Cruz is doing a victory lap around the Republican base, Mitch McConnell is being lambasted in real time on social media and old media, too.
Glenn Beck is one of the more prominent media conservatives to lay into McConnell, saying on his show as the filibuster moved ahead:
“Hey, how much do you love Mitch McConnell… Seriously, piece of garbage these guys are. They’re telling their own people, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ They’re getting the exceptions! I mean it is a monarchy that we are running here.”
Beck continued , insinuating that Mitch McConnell has caved to more powerful liberals driving the implementation of Obamacare:
“We’ve got the people who are in the Royal Court in Congress – everybody else, you know, gets to play by the king’s rules. But we have to be on the other side of the gates. I don’t even understand it.”
Beck’s co-host concurred, saying that the Obamacare legislation slowly rolling into effect is not popular with lawmakers or voters on either side of the aisle — adding:
“And not even the Democrats like this bill. They know it’s a train wreck. They know it’s not ready for prime time. They know it’s not ready for the American people… And they won’t do anything about it. What they should do if they’re insistent on making this bill happen and stick and stay in perpetuity is they should delay the whole thing until they get it all fixed. They won’t do it.”
Over on Twitter, constituents and politics watchers have been ragging on McConnell, turning up the heat and saying:
Mitch McConnell resigned from the Senate by opposing Cruz, he just doesn’t know it yet. http://t.co/4bNeEcL2Ax

@Team_Mitch Mitch McConnell, you either #StandWithCruz or kneel to Reid. Which one will you be doing?

Do you think Mitch McConnell will suffer consequences for breaking with Tea Party popular opinion?
