Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is wanted to direct Fast and Furious 7 .
Justin Lin, the director who has been with the Fast and Furious franchise since The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift , has said he won’t be doing another one. I think the Fast and Furious series is already pushing it now. After Fast Five , I think the series should have ended.
Some critics have said the Fast and Furious series was terrible from the start, and I agree. It was Vin Diesel’s role in Pitch Black that made me curious enough to see The Fast and The Furious , and what I saw was cartoon-level acting in a race-car film that took its plot straight out of Point Break . Thankfully it was just over the top enough to keep me entertained.
Fast and Furious was a step in the right direction, giving the series more of a story, and giving Vin Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto more emotional range. Fast Five added Dwayne Johnson to the mix, who for once actually added substance to the story, being a perfect rival for Vin Diesel’s muscle-bound criminal. It also gave us something more of a heist movie, bringing in characters that made 2 Fast 2 Furious a viable part of the storyline.
Now the director who gave the Fast and Furious series what it needed to be more than just cheap popcorn action fodder is bowing out, saying it’s just too soon to start the next one.
Universal Pictures isn’t letting this stop them, as they’re racing to find another director . Their favorite choices are Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow, Brad Furman of The Lincoln Lawyer , and The Karate Kid reboot director Harald Zwart.
How about none of them? Hasn’t the Fast and Furious film series peaked in what it can do already? Can’t we learn from Michael Bay’s rush job Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and either postpone it or not do it at all?
What do you think about Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow directing Fast and Furious 7 ?
