Chelsea player, Eden Hazard, was sent off during the club’s Capital One Cup semi-final draw with Swansea on Wednesday evening after kicking a ball boy during the encounter.
The Belgian hit out at the child after he failed to return the ball to the soccer player. The referee of the game, Chris Foy, then decided to show the 22-year-old a straight red card for the incident.
After the game, Swansea’ captain, Ashley Williams , remarked, “Dembar Ba told me that the boy held on to it. I saw him kick him in the ribs, and you can’t do that.”
Michael Laudrup, the former Danish soccer international and now manager of the Welsh club, also stated, “I think he will regret it when he sees it. The ball boy should have let it go but he was pushed first and then he kicks him.”
Laudrup also added, “I understand as a player when you are behind and you are under pressure you sometimes say or do things you shouldn’t but there are some things you can’t do.”
Chelsea FC were quick to try and defend their player though, as they wrote on Twitter, “Has football gone mad? Hazard is sent off for kicking the ball under a ball boy attempting to smother the ball rather than return it.”
Chelsea went on to draw the match with Swansea 0-0, but that only meant that they didn’t progress to the final of the competition as they had lost 2-0 to The Swans at Stamford Bridge in the first leg. Check out a video of the incident below.
