Matt Damon: ‘Feels Like President Obama Broke Up With Me’ [Video]

Liberal politics notwithstanding, actor Matt Damon really isn’t on the best of terms with President Barack Obama.

During an interview with BET for his film Elysium, Damon explained that his disillusionment with President Obama feels kind of like a relationship gone south. “He broke up with me,” he said. “We no longer see eye-to-eye.”

Damon was a huge supporter of Obama in 2008 , but the relationship slowly soured over the past several years. The actor has spoken out against the president’s policies in the past, but seemed to completely withdraw his support after the NSA scandal.

“There are a lot of things that I really question,” Damon said. “The legality of the drone strikes, these NSA revelations. Jimmy Carter came out and said we don’t live in a democracy. That’s a little intense when an ex-president says that.”

What Damon really wants from Obama is answers.

“He’s got some explaining to do, particularly for a constitutional law professor,” he said.

The 42-year-old actor’s disillusionment with politics seemed to hit their highest point last year. In another interview , he bemoaned “the fix is in, the game is rigged and no matter how hard you work to change things, it just doesn’t matter.”

A year earlier, in 2011, he was even more harsh:

“I’ve talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level. One of them said to me, ‘Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician.’ You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better.”

He voted for President Obama again, anyway. Lesser of two evils.
