He is one of the most iconic names, personalities, and performers in the history of professional wrestling. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is indeed retired from the ring, but his career will never be forgotten by anyone that is a fan of the sport. Another thing that will always be remembered is how he could celebrate big victories with beer after beer in the ring, but how much did the man known as “The Rattlesnake” actually drink?
Austin has been out of the ring for years now, and he has repeatedly said that he is indeed retired. Fans remember his title runs, the Stone Cold Stunners, and his different runs as a heel and a babyface. Most of all, the fans remember the beer drinking celebrations and all of the booze he put down over the years.
But, just how much did he actually drink?
On the latest episode of “The Stone Cold Podcast,” as transcribed by Maxim , Austin had a conversation with Mark Yeaton, the timekeeper for WWE, and the guy who would toss the beers to him in the ring. Austin said that one of the questions he was always asked is if the beer was real, and he said it was every single time but one.
That one time was on a Sunday in Montreal where having beer was “against the rules of the building” so they used non-alcoholic brews. It was the one and only time they used something that wasn’t real beer,” but all other times were the real deal.
Once, though, there was a time that WWE was in Japan, and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin had a party in the ring that was equivalent to an entire day of college football tailgating.
“Were you in Japan the time we did the beer bash with the Dudleys and Stacy Keibler?…. We went through 115 beers that night [in Japan], and that was the most I ever went through.”
So, there was an event when Austin was in the ring with a few other superstars, and they went through almost five full cases of beer. By just the names he mentioned, it seems as if that would be more than a case per person, but a couple of other people were in the ring with them.
Along with Stacy Keibler and the Dudley Boyz, Austin was joined by Shane “Hurricane” Helms and Torrie. Luckily, Helms has a pic on his Instagram account from that night, and he shared it earlier this year for all to enjoy.

Still, 115 beers between six people is a lot of beer, and it’s hard to imagine how much was actually consumed and not spilled all over the place. No matter what, that’s a long celebration complete with a ton of booze.
Austin admits that the beer sometimes got to him, and there was nothing he could do to avoid that.
“I can’t tell you how many times I left the ring and I had a little bit of a buzz because of all the beers I was drinking. When you’re shotgunning anywhere from six to 12 beers, and maybe you get half of ’em in. On an empty stomach, after you’ve wrestled, it goes to your head pretty quick.”
Over the years, Austin has ended up turning to drinking something else since leaving the ring, and that isn’t surprising. Considering all of the beer he drank during his time in WWE, Jim Ross revealed on his Twitter back in 2014 that Austin now loves drinking “red wine.”
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin is one of those gimmicks that is just as much the real person as it was a creation for a wrestler. A lot of what fans saw in the ring and in promos is who Austin truly is, and that includes the beer drinking. Many enjoyed his celebrations and probably never gave much thought to just how much alcohol he was putting down in those post-match parties, but as Austin revealed, it was sometimes a lot more than anything considered normal.
