DeAngelo Hall has been cut from the Washington Redskins.
Hall had two years remaining on his six year, $54 million contract but due to budget constraints the team was forced to let Hall go.
The Redskins wrote on Twitter: (Coach Mike) Shanahan said he gave Hall forewarning last week, and Hall understood the team’s cap situation … Shanahan says he would be very open to reuniting with Hall, but wanted to allow him to seek a bigger deal on the open market.”
Hall had four interceptions for the Redskins last year but was also partly responsible for the team’s poor passing defense. The Redskins ranked 30th in the league during the 2012-13 season against the pass.
ESPN reports that the Washington Redskins were hit with an $36 million penalty after the 2010 season for salary cap violations. The team decided to take the penalty over the 2012 and 2013 seasons meaning that they are a little strapped for cash at the moment. Cutting Hall will save the team about $8 million.
Shanahan said: “Obviously we’ve been dealt a certain hand and we’ll deal with it…We did a lot of good things…I have high expectations.”
