Aisha Tyler is signing off from The Talk . The busy talk show host, who has been a regular on the CBS daytime show for the past six seasons, has decided to move on from her role as a co-host. In an emotional announcement on the live show, Tyler revealed that she is stepping down from the Emmy-winning daytime chat fest at the end of the current season.

Aisha Tyler broke down after revealing that in addition to her work as a series regular on three other TV series, CBS’ Criminal Minds , The CW’s Whose Line Is it Anyway? , and the FXX animated series Archer , her biggest desire is to direct her first feature film. Tyler said she realized that in order to make her directing career work, she had to “let something go,” and she explained that shooting a daytime talk show 11 months out of the year was taking its toll on her schedule.

“I’m sorry,” Aisha said as she broke down in tears.

“I just realized I had to let something go. It’s been the hardest decision of my life and you guys are my family and I love being with you every day.”

Aisha Tyler has been a co-host on The Talk alongside co-hosts Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, and Sheryl Underwood for six years, starting with the show’s second season in 2011. Tyler said she plans to “haunt” her former co-stars and would love to come back as a guest host in the future. You can see Aisha Tyler’s emotional announcement in the video below.

After her surprising announcement, Aisha Tyler posted two poignant messages to social media. In one post, Aisha wrote that life is about change , and sometimes it can be both painful and beautiful. Tyler urged her followers to be “brave.” In a second post, Aisha captioned a photo of her Talk co-hosts with the hashtag #squadgoalsforever.

Aisha Tyler has always been very open about her life during The Talk’s panel discussions. Last year, Tyler used her spot on the show to announce the end of her 23-year marriage to Jeff Tietjens amid tabloid reports that the two had separated. Aisha confirmed to viewers that she has been separated from her husband since January 2015 and that she hadn’t talked about it on the air because the couple had been trying to work things out. Tyler was forced to spill her personal business sooner than she wanted to after her ex filed divorce documents in court. Aisha explained that tabloid reporters are always “perched” at the courthouse, and they go through all of the divorce filings to create sensationalized stories.
