What on earth’s going on with Selena Gomez? The 21-year-old cried onstage while singing the Justin Bieber-inspired song “Love Will Remember” this week.
The actress-singer choked up while singing the love and loss ballad during her Stars Dance show at the First Nigara Center in Buffalo, N.Y. on Tuesday (Oct. 15.)
A fan in the audience posted a video of Selena’s teary performance on Instagram. Watch it here. After her rendition, the Latina told the audience,
“Everybody in this room: I have those bad days, and I understand when you guys just don’t feel like it’s enough and you just want to get back to when you were a kid again, and it was so simple, and just one thing that you want.”
Selena also cried at her Brooklyn, New York show last night (Oct.16), and it’s reported the issue was a ban on the singer taking Instagrams with her fans which she normally does after her shows.
Which is all well and good, but doesn’t explain all the other occasions she has been teary while singing the same song.
Justin and Selena began dating in 2010, only going public at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party in February 2011.
The couple split up last November but reunited on and off before reportedly calling time on their relationship earlier this year.
Back in June, the Disney alum told In Style, “Obviously, ‘Love Will Remember’ is a personal song to me and I don’t really need to say anything. I think my fans will get it. I think people will figure it out themselves… I’m sure he’ll like it too.”
A later debate about whether the male voicemail at the beginning of the song declaring his love to Selena belonged to Bieber sparked more speculation about the ex-sweethearts. As it turns out the intro wasn’t recorded by the Canadian but is said to be an accurate impression of a message he once left the starlet.
More recently, Justin’s new single “Heartbreaker” reignited talk about the twosome when the 19-year-old accompanied his slow jam release with an Instagram note explaining,
“A song for people going through a heartbreak—like I was when I wrote it. It means so much to me to be able to share what I was, and still am going through, with my fans. I’m very proud of this song and I hope it gives my fans some insight into my heart.”
Gomez’s shared her reaction to Bieber’s ballad during a phone interview with Buffalo, N.Y., radio station KISS 98.5. To listen to the interview click here.
“Honestly, that what’s so beautiful though about music,” the Texas native said. “Especially him, he’s super talented at being able to use what he feels and interpret that through music.”
Gomez went on, “I mean, it’s what you do to grow as an artist. It’s what I’ve done and what many people do,” before concluding that Bieber’s musical love letter was,”sweet.”
However, when asked if people could “bet” on her resuming a relationship with the “Beauty and A Beat” star, she replied ,
“You should bet for me to enjoy all the success that I have on my own and be independent and single until I know what I need to be doing with my life.”
Gomez’s emotional “Love Will Remember” performances this week, and in the past, will doubtless spark more speculation about the star and her ex-boyfriend Justin.
So is it a case of unfinished business between them, or just surprisingly great acting ?
