Johnny Knoxville Unknowingly Took Ecstasy During Film Shoot
Some may think that Johnny Knoxville is naturally under the influence when he films his Jackass stunts. Usually that’s not the case, but for one particular scene in Bad Grandpa, the daredevil was indeed under the influence of ecstasy.
Knoxville has a film called Bad Grandpa that will be hitting theaters soon. Much like his Jackass antics, this movie stages Knoxville in ridiculous stunts for shock value. The difference is that Knoxville is dressed up as an old grandpa. The other difference between the Jackass franchise and his latest film is that Knoxville was slipped ecstasy while filming a scene.
In an interview Johnny Knoxville explained how everything went down, and how tripping on ecstasy may have gotten him funnier footage. Knoxville told The Sun:
“We were filming a promo for ‘Bad Grandpa’ at a frat house in Arizona. I was dressed as Irving and was sitting in the audience with the students, and people kept handing me drinks and someone dosed me with Ecstasy. About 30 minutes into the screening, my heart starts racing and I’m like, ‘I am X-ing right now, someone dosed me.’ I was so happy because I haven’t done X since my 20s. For the rest of the shoot I was just a train wreck, and we got a lot of funny stuff.”
It’s reported that not everything was fun and games for Knoxville. While under the influence of some potent ecstasy Knoxville sustained an injury. According to the stuntman turned actor he ruptured a tendon in his finger.
The ruptured tendon in his finger was due to, “either bursting through a table or climbing up a net.”
The official synopsis for Bad Grandpa is as follows:
“86-year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with the most unlikely companion: his 8 year-old grandson, Billy.”
Bad Grandpa hits theaters on October 28.
