Hugh Jackman Hints At End Of Wolverine Role
Is Hugh Jackman’s future with the X-Men’s Wolverine coming to an end? The A-list actor hinted last week that he may soon be done with the famed comic book character.
Jackman showed up at the San Sebastián film festival to receive a lifetime achievement award and during his appearance the actor hinted that his next turn as Wolverine could be his last.
Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine in six films that ranged from X-Men ensemble flicks to Wolverine-based movies. His next turn as Wolverine will be in May 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The Australian actor tells The Guardian:
“Great parts always outgrow the actors that play them. If you forget that, it’s at your own peril. They are working on it [X-Men] now, and it would have to be very compelling for me to do it again. I’ve been doing it for 10 years.”
Digital Spy also caught up with Jackman who said “I know there’s an expiry date on this. I’m not 100% sure when that is – I’m also really sure it’s not just my decision. In fact, more than likely not my decision! We’ll see.”
In the meantime Jackman is busy promising his new film Prisoners which he says was grueling.
Hugh Jackman wil next appear in Elysium director Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming thriller Chappie. Here’s the synopsis for Blomkamp’s new movie:
“Chappie tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes. The film will star Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, with Ninja and Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters.”
Can you picture any other actor playing Wolverine? Hugh Jackman looks the part and he acts the part, yet we’re almost sure a replacement will one day be announced. At first, fans probably won’t be happy regardless of how good the new actor might fit the role.
