Miley Cyrus on Today: “It Went Exactly As I Planned”
Miley Cyrus wants all you celebrity forecasters to know that the weather does NOT call for meltdown.
On Today with Matt Lauer, Miley talked about her shocking performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, saying “it went exactly as I planned.”
“I mean, it’s a month later and we’re still talking about it, so it definitely went as planned.”
*cough* Told ya so.
Miley was a guest and performer on the show Monday and showed the cheeky, self-deprecating humor and frank manner she had on display when hosting and performing Saturday Night Live over the weekend. When Lauer asked if she was surprised by all the attention coming her way, the answer was simple:
“Not really,” she said. “I mean, it’s kind of what I want. I’m an artist, so I’m hoping that I get a little attention or my record sales might be a little sketch.”
Let’s recap. The VMA performance. The “Wrecking Ball” video. The documentary, Miley: The Movement. The topless cover art. Her debauched fashion sense. It’s all part of a calculated Miley Cyrus marketing plan.
Talking to Lauer, she insisted the transition from child star to performing as an adult wasn’t difficult.
“Nah, because this is just, like, who I am. I think it’s only hard if you’re trying to be something you’re not. Being who you are is really easy if you’re really true to that.”
Lauer continued to play hardball, asking “Is this a phase? Is the sexual side of you that we’re seeing a lot of right now something that’s going to be around for a while and then you move onto something else?”
Miley quipped back, “I heard when you turn 40, things start to go a little less sexual.”
“Probably around that time, I heard that’s when people don’t have sex anymore,” she went on. “I guess maybe around then.”
With the new Miley Cyrus’s album, Bangerz, dropping tomorrow, the Today appearance capped a monumental campaign that has kept the young star on the tip of everyone’s tongue. She said it best herself, though.
“You’re always going to make people talk, you might as well make them talk for two weeks rather than two seconds.”
