Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez Welcome Baby Boy

Halle Berry and husband Olivier Martinez welcomed a baby boy Saturday.

According to E! News, Berry gave birth at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. This is Berry’s first child with Martinez, whom she married in a French chateau on July 13. About 60 people attended the ceremony. The 47-year-old Cloud Atlas star has a 5-year-old daughter, Nahla, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.

News of Berry’s pregnancy first broke in April, when sources connected with the actress and her beau confirmed that the couple was expecting. Berry confirmed the pregnancy shortly afterward and said she was just as shocked as anyone to learn that she would be a mother again.

“This has been the biggest surprise of my life to tell you the truth,” Berry said. “I thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful.”

Halle Berry has another “baby” to celebrate. She will play the lead role as an astronaut in Extant, a 13-episode sci-fi series executive produced by Steven Spielberg that will air on CBS. Berry’s character returns home after a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son, but finds that her experience will change the course of history. The role marks Berry’s first lead television role; she previously made guest appearances on Amen and A Different Role, and had a 6-episode guest arc on Knots Landing in 1991.

“I’m always on the lookout for amazing roles and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance, and complexity it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium,” Berry said of the project. “For five months a year I’ll get to live with and play this incredibly intelligent and vulnerable woman, and for the remainder of the year I’ll continue to look for other roles that move me as deeply as this one.”
