Saoirse Ronan Confirms ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Audition
Actress Saoirse Ronan confirmed that she auditioned for a role in director J.J. Abrams’ highly-anticipated sequel Star Wars: Episode VII.
Rumors started swirling not too long ago that the Hanna star had auditioned for a part in the forthcoming follow-up. However, nothing about her involvement with the picture was previously confirmed by either Abrams, Lucasfilm, or Ronan.
During a recent chat with the folks at Empire magazine, Saoirse Ronan revealed that she did audition for Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII. However, just because she read for the part doesn’t mean that she’s involved with the flick at this stage.
The actress told the publication:
“Yeah, I did [audition for ‘Star Wars Episode VII’].’ I don’t know whether I should have said that now. I mean, everyone did. Everyone has auditioned for it. So many people I know have gone in for the part I’ve gone in for. So I’d imagine JJ is probably just scanning the earth to find the people that he needs. But nobody has a clue what it’s about, and nobody’s read the script.”
Although it’s unclear if Saoirse Ronan landed a role in the sequel, she seems thrilled just to have auditioned for the part. After all, it’s not everyday that a person gets to officially portray a Jedi and wave a pretend lightsaber around the room.
Ronan continued:
“So I’ve gone in and read for it, but I have to say, I think it’s the only time I’ve ever thought, ‘You know what? Even if I don’t get it, I had so much fun auditioning, pretending to take out a lightsaber – out of a bag, kind of inspect it and not know what it is. That was great. A lightsaber! ‘Star Wars’!”
Fans of the young actress can catch her next in acclaimed writer-director Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. She is also slated to star in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut How to Catch a Monster. Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes co-star.
