Randy Neugebauer: Republican Congressman Under Fire For Berating Park Ranger

Randy Neugebauer is under fire for a videotaped confrontation in which the Texas Congressman berated a park ranger who was working outside the National World War II Memorial in Washington.

Neugebauer was seen berating the woman for denying non-veterans access to the memorial, which has been closed during the federal government shutdown. Neugebauer was angry that the memorial was closed, apparently forgetting that it was his actions that caused the park to close.

Randy Neugebauer and other Republicans in Congress have insisted that measures to defund or push back Obamacare be inserted into bills needed to pay the bills for Congress. Democrats have refused to bargain with Pres. Obama’s trademark legislation, and as a result the federal government has shut down.

In the confrontation with the park ranger, Rep. Neugebauer scolded her for denying access to non-veterans, as she had been instructed.

“How do you look at them and say — how do you deny them access? I don’t get that,” he said

“It’s difficult,” she replied.

But Rep. Neugebauer continued to berate the woman, saying, “Park Service should be ashamed of themselves.”

When the woman insisted that she was not ashamed of her actions, Neugebauer shot back, “You should be.”

Now the Tea Party Republican is facing the consequences of his actions. The ethics groups Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has called him out for a violation of House Rule 23, which states that all Congressmen must conduct themselves at all times in a manner that reflects creditably on the House.”

“Rep. Neugebauer’s mistreatment of a federal employee who was doing her job is disgraceful,” said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. “The blame for the government shutdown and the resulting closure of the memorials lies squarely on the shoulders of lawmakers like Rep. Neugebauer who refuse to fund our government.”

Rep. Randy Neugebauer has not apologized for his actions.
