‘Glee’ Releases ‘Farewell To Finn’ Promo, Remembers Cory Monteith [Video]

Since Cory Monteith’s death, Glee fans and journalists have wondered how Glee creator Ryan Murphy would handle the tragic passing of one of its original Gleeks. Days after the news hit that Monteith had passed of an overdose, Murphy addressed that although speaking about Monteith’s death was painful, that Glee would also address the passing of Monteith’s character Finn Hudson.

Originally Murphy had plans to make the Finn Hudson tribute episode focus on the character’s death, which would mirror Monteith’s death. Weeks later it was reported that instead of having the character overdose on drugs, that Finn’s death would be a mystery, and instead, his life would be celebrated, in the same light as Cory’s was. Murphy had said that anything else would have felt “exploitive.”

Now we have a sneak peek at how the crew and cast of Glee handled mourning Cory Monteith and saying goodbye to Finn Hudson. The result looks like a very emotional episode for all involved.

The promo for the episode titled “The Quarterback” features a voice over of Monteith’s on-screen and off-screen love Lea Michele singing Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love,” and the emotion in her voice is palpable. This episode seems to be filled with symbols which represent both Finn and Monteith. As the self-proclaimed “awkward drummer” of the group, which is a description still present in Monteith’s twitter bio, the characters are seen carrying drum sticks down the McKinley High hallway with black ribbons fastened.

In order to get ready for the airing of next week’s farewell episode, FOX has launched a site where friends and fans can share their memories of both Finn Hudson and Cory Monteith under the address: “fox.tv/cory.” FOX has created a hub for people to tweet out their memories with the hashtag #RememberingCory attached to each sentiment.

Since launching the promo on Glee’s official Facebook, it has already been shared six thousand times on the social networking site.

Following up on his comments, Murphy spoke about the finished product of the Cory Monteith tribute episode, having said:

“I’ve never seen a crew that you can’t continue shooting because they’ve left the room sobbing. It was very hard. It was rough. It was very rough. It was very rough with Lea Michele, but I’m very proud of it. I think the performances are quite stunning. People still are not over it. It’s still very, very difficult.”

Glee’s episode “The Quarterback” airs on FOX next Thursday at 9 pm.
