O.J. Mayo Talks Trash, Gets Schooled By Michael Jordan [Video]
O.J. Mayo may be the greatest high school basketball player of all-time (maybe) but he doesn’t have much of a chance against Michael Jordan.
Jordan is pushing 50 now and he isn’t about to strap on his sneakers for a game of one-on-one with Mayo but the two have played in the past. Mayo apparently attended Jordan’s basketball camp and he got more than a basketball lesson.
Jordan said that Mayo was talking a little too much trash during his camp so he decided to show the young man why they call him the greatest of all time.
Jordan said: “He starts this whole thing that, ‘You can’t guard me, you can’t do this,’ and finally I said, ‘Look, you may be the best high school player, but I’m the best player in the world. From this point on, it’s a lesson.’ And from that point on, it was a lesson. He never won a game. I posted him up. I did everything. If I could ever show you that film… If you could ever ask him, ask him about the thing that happened at my camp.”
Jordan’s account of the story seems to be pretty accurate. Reporters caught up with Mayo this week and asked him how he ended up playing Jordan at the Flight School camp.
Mayo said that the trash talk started during a scrimmage with other players and Jordan didn’t really appreciate it. MJ sent the other campers to bed and then played Mayo in a little one-on-one.
Mayo said: “Mike was Mike. You know, he was jawing a little bit, and he was really getting into me defensively. He was backing me down and saying, “You better scream for Mama. Ma-ma. Ma-ma.” Hit the famous fadeaway on me, and then I said, “OK, OK, you got it going.” He said, “Hey, young fella, let me tell you something.” He said, “You may be the best high school player in the world, but I’m the greatest. Don’t you disrespect the great like that.”
And wouldn’t you know it, Larry Brown Sports uncovered a video from the camp.
