Joe Girardi: Cubs Manager Offer Likely, But Yankees Will Give A ‘Good Reason To Stay’
Joe Girardi might be offered to be the Cubs general manager. But will the New York Yankees owners allow this to happen?
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum was fired on Monday.
The Chicago Cubs haven’t been doing well in years when it comes to the attendance of fans. The Chicago Cubs record underneath Sveum was 61-101. This season the Cubs have a 66-93 record, which just continues the Cubs curse. So it’s hoped that hiring the New York Yankees manager might invigorate the fans and bring them back to the baseball stadiums.
A potential Joe Girardi, Cubs manager deal was being discussed ever before the fate of Dale Sveum was certain. Joe Girardi’s three year contract with the New York Yankees was worth $9 million and expires on October 31. But the Cubs management is already saying they aren’t “locked” onto any one person, including Joe Girardi. But so far the Yankees management hasn’t even allowed Joe Girardi to talk to the Cubs.
Joe Girardi says he wants the situation to be cleared up shortly. Yankees management has met with Joe Girardi’s agents to discuss a contract renewal and Brian Cashman says they’ll give him good reasons to stay:
“We have an interest, clearly, in trying to keep him,” Cashman said near the beginning of a wide-ranging 51-minute press conference Tuesday at the Stadium. “I think he likes it here. I’m not speaking for Joe, but I think if you’re good at what you do, you’ll have opportunities to stay. He’s definitely going to have that. We’re going to give him a real good reason to stay. He’s earned that through his six years with us so far.”
Do you think Joe Girardi should go to the Chicago Cubs or stay with the New York Yankees as manager?
