According to his publisher, the author passed away at a hospital in Baltimore on Wednesday.
Clancy is known for his spies novels, many of which have been adapted to film over the years. Some of his most memorable ones are Clear And Present Danger, The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, and The Sum Of All Fears among many others.
Tom Clancy was born on April 12, 1947 and became known for his detailed, technical style in writing his espionage novels set during the Cold War.
He was the creator of one of the most popular fictional characters, Jack Ryan, who is an intelligence officer who has been portrayed by the likes of Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.
