Justin Bieber Reaches Out After Great Wall Of China Carry On
Justin Bieber’s brief Internet sweetspot after his funny yet cathartic guest spot with Zach Galifianakis on a Between Two Ferns episode is well and truly over, after snaps of the pop singer being carried aloft by his bodyguards at the Great Wall of China hit the web.
The 19-year-old, who is currently in China on the Asia leg of his Believe tour odyssey, visited the historic landmark on Monday with some friends and his security team after performing in Beijing the day before.
Reasons for the startling photos of Justin’s princely mode of travel aren’t yet known. It could have been a lark, capricious whim, momentary altitude sickness, or simple fatigue. We may never know.
He also walked part of the way around the site. But no matter. As one outlet stated:
“Oh, I can’t resist this. Who can, really? It’s just so perfect. I don’t care if the dude twisted his tiny, avian ankle and that’s why he needed assistance, the photo alone is priceless, regardless of cause.”
That sentiment is by no means a minority one. Most outlets, having temporarily stashed adjectives such as “Diva”, “Elf King,” “Emperor,” Douchebag,” “Super Brat” and many more, dusted them off along with past Bieber triumphs — that mop bucket, spitting, alleged speeding, paparazzo run-ins, nightclub dramas, and persistent shirtlessness.
Even some of Bieber’s notoriously adoring fans took to Twitter to bemoan the Canadian’s seeming high-handedness.
“I feel for Justin’s bodyguards,” @drewsrauhlx wrote.
Another commenter tutted, “Justin, dude, u actually asked people to carry you? Someone’s going a little diva I see.”
Instagrams and tweets of the white hoodie, drop-crotch pants, baseball cap wearing “Baby” singer being borne between two man-mountains made their way online hours ago, courtesy of apparently shocked tourists also visiting the ancient wonder snapping the superstar in their midst.

Seeing as the much talked about Great Firewall of China has now been lifted in at least one trade area in the country and appears to have let Justin down in this instance — i.e the darn pictures got out — it’s likely the illustrated teen is all too aware of the change in the Internet’s temperature.
Not long ago, the pop prince reached out to his legion of Beliebers posting three Instagrams, one of which showed the thai-dye attired star staring pensively into virtual nothingness.
There was no caption.

Another showed Bieber on more familiar form.
Shirtless, buff, and beaming. It was tagged,”Love you beliebers.”

The last photo (at the time of press) revealed a recently demolished plate of food and a can amid a nondescript room with a TV showing a scene from the comedy series Workaholics.
The tableau could have been any young person’s crash pad.

Apart from hugging a “cutie” baby at the Great Wall, Bieber’s non-historical Beijing activities have included browsing the capital’s Apple Store wearing a policeman’s hat, skateboarding along the city’s streets, visiting a nightclub, and riding a bicycle.

Meanwhile, the embattled star is next scheduled to perform at the Dalian Arena in Dalian on October 2. Following one last show in China, the pop calvacade heads to Japan and Korea before kicking off the Latin America leg of a now infamous world trek.
Coda: Bieber isn’t perfect, the last few months have clearly established that. But he is also a teen under extraordinary scrutiny. Possibly going stir crazy on a 15-month tour, finding ways to stay sane with limitless funds but limited privacy would bring out extreme behavior in most of us.
Obviously it’s not a sympathetic problem or one shared by many. But it is a problem. Just ask Elton John, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Carrie Fisher, Britney Spears, not to mention those stars no longer with us.
Yet the same singer that we have all seen demonstrate at times reckless, puzzling, childish moves, is the same teenager who has helped 200 very sick or terminally ill kids experience real joy, and has given to many more through schools built by the Pencils of Promise Charity and other efforts he supports.
Next to real scandals Bieber’s Great Wall of China shenanigans don’t come close, despite the wall to wall coverage. Ultimately, it’s a question of balance and perspective. But if Justin is to find his, shall we lose ours?
