A woman who quits her job through the under-used medium of interpretive dance has gone viral, and I totally regret not having clicked on this so many times yesterday because she picked “Gone” by Kanye West to quit to — and that song is freaking awesome, even like 10 years later.
In the clip, the woman quits her job to the strains of “Gone,” which is a bit more about not appreciating things until you don’t have them, and less about being “gone” per se — though there are a few faint threats from ‘Ye that he will move to Oklahoma and just live at his aunt’s house.
The woman who quits is Marina Shifrin, and her job happens to be making videos with the aim of getting page views. Shifrin tired of being a cog in a web traffic machine, it appears, and in the clip (in a very hip font, we might add), Marina explains:
“For almost two years, I’ve sacrificed my relationships, time and energy for this job. My boss only cares about quantity and how many views each video gets. So I figured I’d make one video of my own.”
Shifrin, who worked for Next Media Animation in Taiwan, is American — and it isn’t quite clear where she plans to go after she spectacularly flamed out of her old gig.
But media reaction has been positive, and with 4.6 million views and counting, Shifrin’s job-ditching vid probably did her more harm than good.
After hitting global viral news sites worldwide, she even updated about how her clip was received in the workplace:
@KingWatto I accept your resignation.

Update! No, it’s not a hoax, but the work at home mom version is so super epic, too.
