We already know that a Harry Potter spin-off film series is in the works and being written by J.K. Rowling. It turns out that Warner Bros. is hoping to take the franchise extension even further. The film studio recently trademarked various other potential spin-off titles.
Following Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the company trademarked Tales of Beedle The Bard, a book-within-a-book from the popular Harry Potter book series.
Warner Bros. has also trademarked the title Quidditch Through The Ages, yet another Harrry Potter book-within-a-book. Quidditch Through The Ages was the first book introduced during the Philosopher’s Stone . The book is handed to Harry Potter by Hermione ahead of his first Quidditch match.
Rowling likes to take her book-within-a-book concepts and turn them into actual real-world copies. In fact, Rowling has agreed to write the movie script for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Along with trademarking book names, Warner Bros have also protected the names of characters and teams including Wimbourne Wasps, Chudley Cannons and Kenmare Kestrels, as well as the book’s fictitious author, Quidditch expert Kennilworthy Whisp.
Warner Bros. has trademarked the names and book titles for live-action films, reality TV series, animated series, and films and computer games.
When announcing Fantastic Beasts, studio CEO Kevin Tsujihara said the company will “build a franchise” around the world of Harry Potter.
The Harry Potter franchise has grossed more than $3 billion worldwide, with the last film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, arriving in 2011.
Warner Bros. has promised that the new movies will “look and feel very similar” to its previously produced Harry Potter films.
