New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle firmly believes the team can go 12-0 the rest of the season, and make the playoffs to top off the comeback.
That’s huge talk for a player on a 0-4 team who has gotten worse as the season has progressed.
The Giants have scored seven points their last two games while allowing opponents to score 69 points. Those are not even close to the numbers of a team that can run the table for the rest of the season.
Antrel Rolle doesn’t care what anybody thinks though. Speaking with reporters Monday , he said, “I believe we can go 12-0 from this point on. People can look at me like I’m crazy, but you know I could really give a damn at this point. This is what I truly believe. I know the talent of this team, I know the mindset of this team, we just have to go out there and put it all together.”
Antrel Rolle, as crazy he acknowledges he sounds, is right about the talent in New York. Eli Manning is the same quarterback who led the team to two Super Bowl championships, and Tom Coughlin is same head coach who guided them there.
Still, there’s something not right in New York. Manning has lost his touch, tossing nine interceptions in the team’s first four games, while the defense has been terrible.
At least Antrel Rolle still believes. And that’s the great thing about sports, isn’t it? No matter how bad things look, competitors always see a way to turn it around. Rolle isn’t just speaking to keep Giant fans interested, he truly believes what he’s saying.
