Kevin Garnett, the Brooklyn Nets prized offseason acquisition, is in “ring or bust” mode with his new team, a sentiment which should make fans very happy.
Garnett signed with the Nets, along with Boston Celtics ‘ teammate Paul Pierce, to be the finishing touches on a team that just fell short of greatness last season.
The Brooklyn Nets finished the 2012-13 season with 49 wins, and lost in the first round of the playoffs. With the help of Pierce and Garnett, they should be able to go a lot further.
Speaking with reporters at the Nets’ media day , Garnett made it clear, “I’m here to get another ring.” Speaking for himself and Pierce, added, “That’s the only reason we came to Brooklyn.”
Kevin Garnett then turned the microphone over to Paul Pierce, who re-iterated, “I came here to win a championship. I don’t even know how many Atlantic Division championships we won in Boston…. The expectations have grown. It’s no longer the New Jersey Nets, hoping we can win the division. Now they’re the Brooklyn Nets with championship aspirations. You see that with the people around, the owners, what they’ve done to turn this organization around.”
To help Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce win their first championship outside of Boston, Brooklyn brought Jason Kidd in to coach. Kidd, of course, played for the Nets when they were in New Jersey, and brings a unique leadership to club ready to make to the next level.
Do you think Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are the missing pieces in Brooklyn? Are the Nets now legitimate contenders for the championship?
