Katy Perry Contemplated Suicide After Russell Brand Divorce
Katy Perry admitted that she thought about committing suicide after her divorce from Russell Brand.
The couple married in October 2010, but Brand filed for divorce in December 2011, citing irreconcilable differences. Perry and Brand finalized their divorce in July 2012. In her autobiographical movie, Katy Perry: Part of Me, the “Roar” singer revealed that she and Brand divorced over a disagreement about starting a family.
The 28-year-old told Billboard that some of the songs from her new album, PRISM, show the struggle she went through when Brand told her he wanted a divorce. One in particular, “By the Grace of God,” opens with Perry lying on a bathroom floor fighting thoughts of suicide.
“That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point,” Perry said. “I asked myself, ‘Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?'”
Perry added, “All the songs are real-life moments. I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs.”
Back in June, Katy Perry said Russell Brand told her he was filing for divorce in a text message, and that she hasn’t spoken to him since.
“He’s a very smart man, a magical man and I was in love with him when I married him,” she said. “Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”
She also admitted that she got angry when she found out Brand was making fun of her during his shows.
“He started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience,” she said. “Because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows.”
Russell Brand made his own shocking confession last month, when he admitted that he would think of other people during sex with Katy Perry.
“When you’re a monk, you’re not allowed to have sex with anyone,” he said. “When you’re married, it’s one person. That’s one more than a monk. It’s not that different. I’d be having sex thinking, ‘Think of anyone, anyone else.'”
