‘Dead Rising 3’: Xbox 360 Rumors Are False, Still Xbox One Exclusive
If you’re excited about Dead Rising 3 getting an Xbox 360 release, then prepare yourself for a really dark and depressing day. Unfortunately, the upcoming zombie game is still an Xbox One exclusive.
For a very brief moment earlier this week, fans of Capcom’s franchise were extremely excited about the sequel’s arrival on the current-gen console. Unfortunately, their bubble of unbridled excitement was recently burst by Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb.
Despite what your friends recently posted on social media, Dead Rising 3 isn’t coming to Xbox 360. The forthcoming open-world zombie game is still an exclusive title for Xbox One. Feel free to hang your heads in disappointment now.
“Reports from [Eurogamer Expo] that ‘Dead Rising 3’ will launch on Xbox 360 are false. It’s an Xbox One exclusive — no plans for 360,” Hryb recently tweeted.
According to Gamespot, developers originally hoped to bring the next installment of the franchise to Xbox 360. Unfortunately, the console couldn’t keep up with the ideas producers wanted to execute. As a result, Capcom decided to shelve this version of the game.
“In terms of building the game, we originally developed it on PC and everything we were doing was breaking the bank on [Xbox] 360,” producer Mark Jones explained earlier this year.
Considering the scope of Dead Rising 3, it’s not altogether surprising that the game will only be available on a next-gen machine. Not only will the game feature a plethora of different endings, the map is also larger than the previous installments combined. This sort of ambition requires quite a bit of power.
Jones said of the multiple endings:
“Previous ‘Dead Risings’ would always have modes like the Overtime mode, where you get to discover the truth behind everything that’s been going on. So there’s not just the six days, we’re going beyond that if you make the right story decisions. So it’s not like choose-your-own-adventure crazy infinite endings, there’s a finite amount, but they all [correspond to] meaningful story decisions that you make as you play through.”
