Samantha Lewthwaite Red Notice: Interpol Places White Widow On Most Wanted List
Samantha Lewthwaite is now on Interpol’s most wanted list.
The international agency issued a red notice today for the 29-year-old who also goes by the name Natalie Webb. The agency issued the alert at the request of authorities in Kenya.
The red notice was circulated to 190 Interpol countries. The notice is one of the agency’s most powerful ways to track fugitives.
Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble said: “By requesting an INTERPOL Red Notice, Kenya has activated a global ‘tripwire’ for this fugitive… Through the INTERPOL Red Notice, Kenyan authorities have ensured that all 190 member countries are aware of the danger posed by this woman, not just across the region but also worldwide.”
Samantha Lewthwaite is the widow of Germaine Lindsay, one of the four people involved in the 2005 bombing in London that killed 52 people. She is known as the White Widow, and many people believe that she may have been involved in the Westfield Mall shooting in Kenya last week.
Secretary General Noble said that Lewthwaite allegedly obtained a fraudulent South African passport with the name Natalie Faye Webb. The Red Notice will put 190 countries on alert for the White Widow.
Noble said: “Every year hundreds of millions of individuals are boarding international transport and crossing borders without having the authenticity of their travel or identity document checked. This dramatically compromises our ability to effectively screen and identify at airports and land crossings those individuals who could be suspected criminals and terrorists.”
