Jason Segel To Steal Maple Syrup In Heist Film
We’ve heard of a lot of heist films before, but we’ve never heard of a maple syrup heist film. You may want to guard your pancakes come 2014 because How I Met Your Mother’s Jason Segel is ready to steal some syrup. In case you’re wondering, that’s $20 million worth of maple syrup that Segel plans on stealing in his upcoming heist film.
Sony announced that it has greenlit Segel’s new film, which is based on a real-life Canadian who was involved in what else, but a maple syrup heist.
The project, which his untitled, is said to be directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), and will star Segel as one of the thieves who stole upwards to $20 million worth of maple syrup from Quebec’s Federation of Maple Syrup Producers. So how many people were involved in this heist? It’s reported that up to 20 people were connected with the crime.
Does this mean we’re going to see 20 star-studded names attached to Jason Segel‘s maple syrup heist? Not likely, but you never know. This odd little film is said to be written by Family Guy scribe, Chris Sheridan, and will retell the reporting from Montreal Gazette writer Anne Sutherland.
So far Sony has decided to bill this one as a “comedy with dramatic overtones.” We’re hoping that comedy comes with a lot of easy laughs.
Sony seems to be eating up Jason Segel as of late. Earlier Segel sold a starring vehicle called Sex Tape, which sees him against Cameron Diaz. In the raunchy titled film, Segel and Diaz are a married couple who discover that their sex tape is missing, and are involved in a frantic search to find the tape.
Earlier in the month it was reported that Sony had backed off of the film, and decided to push the film’s release date to July 18 instead of July 2.
Which Sony film are you excited about? Sex Tape or the untitled maple syrup film?
