‘Iron Man 3’ Writer Opens Up About ‘Runaways’ Movie
Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce recently opened up about the state of the proposed Runaways movie that was taking shape over at Marvel.
Although the studio and the scribe were making some progress on the adaptation not too long ago, nothing new about the project has bubbled up in recent days. In fact, it’s been approximately five years since the folks at Marvel first announced the movie.
According to Coming Soon, Pearce penned a draft for the Runaways movie before beginning work on Iron Man 3. However, it would seem that Marvel doesn’t have any plans to move forward with the adaptation just yet.
During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Drew Pearce said the Runaways movie fell off the radar after the studio shifted focus to Joss Whedon’s Avengers movie.
“We were really close to being made, and then this movie started to happen called ‘The Avengers.’ Oddly, it pulled focus from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did kind of consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s there,” the Iron Man 3 writer explained to the publication.
He continued, “Maybe it’ll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so, I’m really proud of it and I think it’ll be a brilliant film, but I think it all depends what Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel, what his master plan is.”
Created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, Runaways first arrived back in 2003. The story follows a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are a pair of notorious supervillains. After running away from home, the group decides to right the evil deeds perpetrated by their mom and dad.
Drew Pearce currently has his hands busy with the next installment of Tom Cruise’s wildly popular Mission: Impossible franchise. Jack Reacher director Christopher McQuarrie will step behind the camera for the upcoming sequel.
Iron Man 3, meanwhile, arrived on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital download yesterday (September 24). Are you disappointed that Marvel put Runaways on the back burner?
