Simon Cowell said on Tuesday he will not be in the delivery room with girlfriend Lauren Silverman when she gives birth to the couple’s first child.
The 56-year-old X Factor mentor and his 36-year-old girlfriend are expecting a child together, but he doesn’t plan on attending the birth so Silverman must find another person to rely on during her labor.
During a call in to Ryan Seacrest Radio Show Cowell opened up about his future plans.
“I genuinely never thought [me being a Dad] was going to happen,” Cowell admitted to Seacrest. “Partly because I was scared of who I was going to have kids with… [but] Lauren and I get along really well and once I got used to the idea I thought, ‘I think this is going to be very good.’”
In July of 2013 Lauren Silverman’s husband, Andrew filed for divorce from his wife, citing adultery and naming Cowell as the other party. Andrew Silverman and Simon Cowell used to be friends.
Andrew and Lauren Silverman finalized their divorce in August of this year. The couple, who was married for 10 years, has a son Adam, 7.
Even if he isn’t planning on attending the birth of his child (this will certainly be a topic of conversation), Cowell hinted to Seacrest that he intends to marry Silverman.
“Let’s put it this way, I wouldn’t expect her to be a single mother.” he said.
When Seacrest asked if he would be in the delivery room Simon Cowell replied,
“Are you out of your mind?”
“I know this sounds awful, but it’s like you don’t want to go in to the restaurant while they’re making your dinner,” Cowell said. “I think there are certain things you shouldn’t see and that is one of them. I’ll be very close by, but no [I won’t watch.]”
