‘Gravity’ Director Alfonso Cuaron Is A Huge Fan Of ‘Pacific Rim’
Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron has crafted what many have called one of the greatest science fiction movies on the planet. However, this isn’t stopping him from singing the praises of others.
Cuaron, who also helmed the 2006 flick Children of Men, is one of the many folks who simply adore director Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. During a recent conversation with Hitflix, the Gravity mastermind had nothing but praise for last summer’s creature feature.
“I love ‘Pacific Rim.’ When I saw ‘Pacific Rim,’ I said, ‘I’ve been three-and-a-half years now doing ‘Gravity’ and now you’re making me feel that I just did this tiny, tiny indie Sundance film,'” Cuaron told the website.
He added, “What I love about ‘Pacific Rim’ is it’s done without any post-modernist, ironic approach. [Guillermo Del Toro] really loves his characters. He loves his monsters. And at the core of it, what he loves is the characters inside the robots.”
Alfonso Cuaron can rest easy knowing that the feeling is definitely mutual. The Inquisitr previously reported that Guillermo del Toro is a big fan of Gravity. The filmmaker recently shared his thoughts about the movie with The Wrap.
“I think it is one of the most beautifully designed, elegant, powerful, sci-fi movies. It has certainly taken what he created in ‘Children of Men’ and pushed it even more,” he said.
Gravity also found a fan in Avatar and Titanic director James Cameron. The filmmaker told Variety that Cuaron’s flick is one of the best space movies ever made.
“I read the script, and I thought it was tremendously challenging to shoot with a high degree of veracity to get the real look of zero gravity. I’m sure Alfonso had a real uphill battle with the studio, with everyone involved, to get it the way it needed to look. But he knew in his mind how it needed to look, and he went after it,” Cameron said of the upcoming drama.
