Taye Diggs Heading To ‘The New Girl’

Fans of The New Girl may be pleased to see Taye Diggs in a new story arc this season — or not, depending on what they want for characters Nick and Jess.

When Taye Diggs shows up on the Fox sitcom this season, it is confirmed that his character will be upsetting the fledgling romance of Zooey Deschanel’s Jess and roomie-cum-sorta-boyfriend Nick, played by Jake Johnson.

Diggs will appear sometime in November, and the character he plays will provide some tension for the Nick and Jess courtship.

The Hollywood Reporter explains that Taye Diggs is being brought on as “Artie,” a charm-heavy love interest with ladies-based skills. The site reports:

“Described as a ‘smooth, confident ladies’ man,’ Artie has his eyes set on Jess, which proves to be problematic for her new relationship with Nick. And New Girl fans, take note: The episode in question also heralds the return of Damon Wayans Jr. The Happy Endings star, who played Coach in the pilot episode, kicks off a multi-episode arc at the same time.”

While Artie is described as a “romantic distraction” in the Nick and Jess storyline, it also appears that as of now, Diggs is only committed for one episode.

That doesn’t mean the final part of 2013 will be Taye Diggs free, however, as the star is also lined up to appear in the films Baggage Claim and The Best Man Holiday.
