iOS7 Security Flaw Prevents Recovery Of Stolen iOS 7 Based iPhone 5S

An iOS7 security flaw prevents recovery of iOS 7 based iPhone 5S smartphones.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, iOS7 is compatible with the majority of newer Apple iPhones and iPads. The iPad 5 release date is also looming ahead of us, as well.

iOS7 will feature a new lock screen, home screen, and a new control center which will be available by swiping from the bottom of the screen. iOS 7 has a 64-bit version in addition to the 32-bit version for older iPhones. iOS 7 will of course be backwards compatible with 32 bit apps, which represents the majority of iPhone Apps. The iOS7 release date is set for September 18 and will be free for download.

The new iOS7 lock screen allows access both to the Control Center and Siri, which inadvertently gives rise to an iOS7 security flaw. Even if a stolen or lost iPhone 5S were locked these new features allow anyone to disable Find My iPhone or Find My iPad features.

Another iOS7 security flaw is the ability to enter airplane mode from the lock screen, which is normally seen as a conveniance. Why is that a problem, you might ask? When in Airplane mode your iPhone 5S wouldn’t have access to any type of internet connection and thus Apple’s iPhone and iPad recovery services cannot function.

It could be argued that even without this iOS7 security flaw a thief could turn off the power in order to prevent the iPhone 5S user from tracking it down. But in this case these iOS7 security flaws would give the thief time to break the PIN code or override the iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner via hacking.
