Bo Pelini’s Anti-Fan Rant Won’t Get Him Fired From Nebraska
Bo Pelini is one lucky college football coach. Nebraska has chosen not punish him for an anti-fan rant from 2011 that recently leaked.
In the leaked audio tape Pelini is very open about his feelings for Cornhusker nation. He uses the f-word a lot. Almost every other word, in fact. He has since apologized for his outburst.
Nebraska, after speaking with Pelini and reviewing his case, have decided not to discipline him. School Chancellor Perlman and Athletic’s Director Shawn Eichorst issued a joint statement accepting Pelini’s apology:
“We have observed, and many others have commented, that coach Pelini’s demeanor has significantly improved since the time of this incident. Coach Pelini has given us his assurance that he understands the seriousness and inappropriateness of his comments. We believe he is sincere in his apology and in his regret. We are prepared to put the matter to rest. Our football student-athletes, coaches and staff deserve all of our support and we know the Nebraska faithful will be there for them.”
Pelini’s anti-fan rant leaked after a bad 41-21 home loss to UCLA. Overall though, Pelini has been a stellar had coach for Nebraska. Since taking over the football program in 2008, Pelini has a 51-21 overall record. In 2009 he led the Cornhuskers to the Big 12 Championship game against Texas.
Next up for Nebraska is figuring out who leaked the tape. If it’s an employee of the university, you can bet they won’t have a job much longer. Pelini has an idea of who it is, but won’t name them publicly until the information is confirmed.
Some fans may not be happy Pelini will be sticking around. He has faced criticism recently for losses like the one to UCLA. Nebraska is 2-1 to start this season and the tide could still turn in the right direction for Pelini. Fans will just have to accept he is running the show for one more season.
Are you surprised Bo Pelini’s anti-fan rant didn’t get him fired?
