Starbucks Gun ‘Ban’ Policy Not Gun Control, Only Refuses To Welcome Gun Owners
A Starbucks gun ban policy on gun control is refusing to welcome gun owners. Or maybe they don’t think rednecks and hipsters should mix?
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the progressive nature of Stabucks management is shown in their support of Obamacare.
But with the recent Navy Yard shooting, gun control has gotten back in the spotlight. But the new Starbucks gun ban policy is claimed to not be in response to Aaron Alexis’ actions or the Newtown elementary shootings. Instead, Starbucks feels guns make people “uncomfortable” and they fear for the safety of small kids. But Starbucks gun incidents are rare, with only two accidental gun discharges and no other gun related violence has been reported except for robberies.
The new Starbucks gun ban policy will “not to allow customers carrying firearms in our stores or on our outdoor seating premises unless they are uniformed or identified law enforcement officers.” But apparently this policy will not be enforced too firmly since they say Starbucks customers with guns will still be served as normal.
CEO Howard Schultz explains the reason for the Starbucks gun ban policy:
“I want to make it very clear that Starbucks is not a policy maker and as a company we are not pro- or anti-gun. However, there have been a number of episodes over the course of the last few months that have put us in a position to take a big step back and assess the issue of open carry.”
The episodes Howard Schultz is referring to is a Starbucks Appreciation Day by pro-gun proponents who wanted to celebrate Starbuck’s previous gun control policies in relation to their own stores. Groups in favor of gun control also staged Starbucks gun control events and protested Starbucks gun policy by staging Skip Starbucks Sundays. Mr. Schultz believes this open carry debate is becoming “increasingly uncivil and, in some cases, even threatening.”
