Gina Torres said she would be thrilled to play Wonder Woman if a feature film ever happens.
In an interview with Vulture , the 44-year-old said she appreciated the fan campaign for her to play the Amazonian princess .
“You know, she is a superhero that has been a part of my life since I can remember, and it is incredibly gratifying and heartwarming and wonderful that this campaign continues to have a life — even though it might be maybe three or four people that are keeping it alive,” the Suits star said.
“I love them! I don’t know how realistic it is. Of course I would love to do that. Who wouldn’t in their right mind? And why not?” Torres asked.
“Well, there are all kinds of reasons why not,” she said. “But yes, it is a fantasy. And it’s a hoot. It’s a hoot that every now and then, all these years go by, and people are still thinking that I could do that; I could make that wonderful and they will come and see it. I can’t even tell you how that feels.”
Gina Torres is no stranger to playing strong women. In Firefly , Torres played Zoe Alleyne Washburne, the second-in-command on board Serenity . Described by her husband Hoban “Wash” Washburne (Alan Tudyk) as a “warrior woman,” Zoe is a tough and deadly fighter capable of handling the most dangerous situations with calm and ease.
Torres also starred Cleopatra 2525 , which ran for two seasons from January 2000 to March 2001. She played Hel (Helen), leader of a trio of women fighting against the Baileys, armed flying machines that control the earth’s surface.
The ALMA Award nominee also played Nebula, a female pirate and half-sister of Gilgamesh, in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys , and Cleopatra in its spinoff, Xena: Warrior Princess .
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Chronicle writer Max Landis claims he is working on a Wonder Woman movie that he plans to pitch to Warner Bros. Amazon , the Wonder Woman TV series that was in development at the CW, was paused because the script wasn’t right .
