The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD isn’t perfect, but, being a Zelda title, it’s still a great game.
Nintendo’s flagship action-RPG series tends to stand the test of time even in spite of technological advances. Arriving September 20 for the Wii U , this high-definition remake proves that sometimes it doesn’t matter how dated the game is. If it was great once, it’s still great today. Of course those advancements in technology are also the reason this game could have been better. Many reviewers are stating that it could have at least been updated in other ways.
IGN says The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is smooth sailing on the most part. The classic adventure gameplay that featured sea travel over a decade before Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has proven to be timeless all by itself. Even if one didn’t know based on the “HD” at the end of the title that this was a remake, it would be easy to mistake this as a new game for the Wii U. One of the series’ best stories combines with a cell-shaded animation style to make this game a true classic.
Nintendo Life tells us that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is less of a new title than it is basically a testing ground for future HD remakes. This lends to the possibility of other Zelda titles getting HD remakes, as previously reported by The Inquisitr . The gameplay was improved with the graphics in ways that help the remake stand out once more and remind us why it was a breakthrough classic in the first place.
GameSpot holds The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD to more modern standards and points out that some of the flaws with the original are still there. The second half of the game still drags, and the boredom of Tingle’s quest won’t keep gamers from adjusting the contrast on their TVs to compensate for the overly bright colors the game delivers. It may be trying too hard to mask its remaining flaws behind a new in-game paint job.
In general, despite recycling the flaws of the original, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is still a great game for Wii U owners.
