Paul Greengrass Drops Out Of ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’
Filmmaker Paul Greengrass has reportedly dropped out of The Trial of the Chicago 7.
The United 93 director was previously attached to helm the project over at DreamWorks. However, Greengrass and the studio couldn’t reach an agreement regarding the budget. As a result, the filmmaker decided to drop out altogether.
According to The Wrap, the difference between the budgets was a mere $10 million. Although DreamWorks wanted to make the movie for $30 million, Paul Greengrass was eyeing a budget of approximately $40 million. Despite their best efforts, the two parties couldn’t work things out.
Now that the Green Zone director is officially off the project, the studio will attempt to find someone else to bring the tale to the big screen. DreamWorks hasn’t approached anyone about the project as of this writing.
Trial of the Chicago 7 tells the story of the riots that took place in the city during the 1960s. Variety reports that the period piece may end up costing the studio much more than $30 million to produce due to the scale of the project.
Award-winning writer Aaron Sorkin penned the script for the movie. At one stage in the game, Ben Stiller and Sacha Baron Cohen both wanted the real role in the flick. However, both actors have since moved on to other features.
While DreamWorks looks for a new director, Paul Greengrass is staying busy with his recent action-thriller Captain Phillips. Starring Tom Hanks, the film chronicles the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and his encounter with ruthless Somali pirates back in 2009.
The director recently told the London Evening Standard that it was an absolute pleasure and a thrill to work with the acclaimed Forrest Gump star on the movie.
“Anybody who makes films would want to. He’s everything I ever imagined. He’s just fantastically good. And he’s in his prime now,” the filmmaker explained.
