Ewan McGregor Hasn’t Been Contacted To Appear In ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’
Although it was rumored last month that Ewan McGregor would be returning for Star Wars: Episode VII, the Scottish actor revealed that he has not been contacted to appear in the upcoming sequel.
Last month, it was reported that McGregor was in talks with Disney and LucasFilm to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but neither director JJ Abrams nor representatives from LucasFilm confirmed his involvement. Other reports suggested that he could play a Force Ghost in the sequel.
However, in an interview with E! News, McGregor said he hasn’t been approached about reprising the role in JJ Abram’s new installment.
“They haven’t phoned me yet,” McGregor said during the premiere of his film August: Osage County at the Toronto International Film Festival. “I’d be up for it [if they ask].”
This isn’t the first time the 42-year-old has said that he wouldn’t mind returning for more Star Wars. Back in February, the Golden Globe nominee said that he would be interested in doing a spinoff movie based around Obi-Wan Kenobi.
At the time, Disney had announced that a series of films set in the Star Wars universe would be produced separately from the new trilogy. It was reported that those films could revolve around Yoda, Han Solo, and Boba Fett, but McGregor said he would like to play Obi-Wan again.
“I think it’s a good idea,” he told MTV News. “The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, Episode III, before Alec Guinness (who played Ben Kenobi in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi), there’s that period where he’s in the desert.”
Ewan McGregor added, “That might be my window, there, to tell that story. I don’t know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff. Could be quite exciting. I’d be up for it, for sure, of course!”
