Ellie Goulding Was Dating Ed Sheeran, But Not Anymore
Ellie Goulding denied that she was dating Ed Sheeran after the two were spotted holding hands while seated together during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, but it turns out she wasn’t exactly being honest.
At least not at the time.
In a recent interview Sheeran admitted that the two signers were in fact dating when they were seen together at the VMAs, but that the relationship is over now.
“I mean, normal people don’t hold hands if they’re just friends,” Sheeran told Washington radio station Click 98.9 via Us Weekly. “It was going on. And now it’s not.”
That statement was in contradiction to the denials Ellie Goulding issued just after they were spotted together.
“I love that holding hands with my friends means we’re an item,” she tweeted in response to the rumors. “In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater.”
It appears it may be a case of two people who had different thoughts on where their relationship stood. Either way, the breakup appeared to be amicable and Sheeran said he has no hard feelings toward Ellie Goulding,
“She’s a really cool girl and she’s very talented,” Ed said. “She’s had a No. 1 single for three weeks in England now. It’s all going well.”
It could also be that Goulding was in some kind of a transition between relationships when she was spotted with Sheeran. After the encounter at the VMAs, US Weekly reported that Ellie was still involved in a relationship with actor Jeremy Irvine.
Ellie Goulding and her (possible) relationships have been a hot topic for celebrity outlets, especially in her native England. She’s been linked to One Direction singer Niall Horan, and onlookers said they saw the two kissing backstage at Virgin Media’s V Festival. The reports turned out to be false, however.
