Hugh Jackman Says ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Could Be Wolverine’s Last Movie
Hugh Jackman may be making his last outing as Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The 44-year-old said he “made the most” of his time filming Days of Future Past because it might be the final time he plays the character.
“It may be the last. By the way, it didn’t hit me until three weeks before the end [of shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past], because we promoted The Wolverine and I came back on set with three weeks to go, and that’s when I went, ‘Well, who knows? Maybe there’s no more Wolverine. Maybe this is it. Who knows? Maybe,'” Jackman told MTV.
“So I really made the most of those last few weeks. I enjoyed every time I put the claws on,” he added.
The Golden Globe winner also said that Days of Future Past is like two or three films in one because of the depth of its story.
“I keep saying it’s like two movies in one, but with the size of it it’s really three in one. It really is going to blow people away because of the story,” Jackman said. He also praised Bryan Singer, who has directed and/or produced four of the films in the franchise.
“Bryan Singer, I think, is going to become the first director to make increasingly better movies in a franchise, I’m not sure if there’s anyone else that’s done it,” Jackman said.
X-Men: Days of Future Past will mark Hugh Jackman’s seventh appearance as Wolverine. In addition to the original trilogy, Jackman reprised his role in two spinoffs, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine. He also had a brief cameo appearance in X-Men: First Class.
Jackman also recently revealed that he almost played Wolverine in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. The Aussie actor said the reason the cameo didn’t work out was because no one could find the Wolverine costume used in X-Men.
“In the first Spider-Man we really tried to get me to come on and do something, whether it was a gag or just to walk through the shot or something,” Jackman said. “The problem was, we couldn’t find the suit. The suit was stuck in something. And so when they were in New York when I was there, we couldn’t get it together.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to open in theaters May 23, 2014.
