Much to the dismay of fans across the planet, the crime drama The Killing has been canceled by the folks at AMC yet again.
The series was originally dropped by the cable network back in 2012. However, executives decided to bring the show back after the first two seasons found a new life on Netflix . While fans had no problem tuning into the new episodes, apparently the series couldn’t find a new batch of viewers.
According to Screen Crush , ratings played a huge part in the show’s cancellation. The season finale only managed to draw in 1.5 million viewers , a number that wasn’t too far removed from the second season’s final episode.
The Killing was canceled by AMC on Tuesday . The cable network called the decision to kick the series to the curb once again a “difficult one.”
“We have made the difficult decision not to move forward with a fourth season of The Killing. We want to thank our great partners at Fox Television Studios, creator Veena Sud, an extraordinary cast and the dedicated fans who watched,” the network said in a recent release.
The statement continued, “While we would have loved to produce a fourth season for AMC, FTVS is immensely grateful to everyone involved with this moving series: our brilliant cast, led by Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman and season three’s Peter Sarsgaard, our stellar executive producer, Veena Sud, a remarkable writing and producing team, and a tireless, dedicated crew.”
AMC also said they were thankful to the fans who stuck by the show’s side during the first cancellation. Unfortunately, there simply aren’t enough curious viewers to warrant another go-around. Unless something happens down the road, the crime drama has officially come to an end.
Based on the Danish television series Forbrydelsen , the show followed the adventures of homicide detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman). Although the first two seasons dealt with the same case, the third season put together an entirely different mystery.
