James Wan Quitting Horror After ‘Insidious: Chapter 2’
The Conjuring director James Wan is currently one of the strongest directors working in the horror genre. However, his days of crafting scary movies are drawing to a close.
The filmmaker is currently promoting his upcoming horror flick Insidious: Chapter 2. Although he’s made a career out of terrifying the masses, Wan recently said he’s ready to make a change. This means the Insidious sequel could be his final foray into the genre.
“I’m going to go on record and say I am finished with the horror genre. ‘Conjuring’ and ‘Insidious 2’ are my two last scary movies. I spent the last ten years of my life doing this. It’s time for a change,” the director explained to Moviefone.
This means James Wan probably won’t be involved with either The Conjuring 2 or Insidious: Chapter 3. However, just because he’s finished with horror doesn’t mean he’s turning his back on the medium altogether.
The filmmaker made headlines earlier this year when he was hired to bring Fast and Furious 7 to the big screen. After spending quite a bit of time on the franchise, director Justin Lin ultimately decided to take a break. Wan was eventually brought in as his replacement.
Although he doesn’t have much experience working on a huge big-budget action flick, the folks at Universal Pictures seem to think he’s the right guy for the job. Judging from his recent comments, Wan seems excited about the project.
“I want to honor that world and be mindful of how much fans enjoy that world. I don’t want to mess that up too much, but at the same time, I definitely would love to bring my own stamp to it. I think what I do best is, I love creating tension and suspense,” he explained.
Insidious: Chapter 2, the director’s last foray into the genre, is currently slated to arrive in theaters this Friday (September 13). The trailer for the flick lies below.
