Miley Cyrus 23 Rap Divides, Loses Vogue Cover, Still Winning
Miley Cyrus may have lost a coveted Vogue cover but she’s still got plenty of exciting stuff going on, not least of which the full version release of “23” — her collaboration with Mike Will Made it.
The 20-year-old’s guest rap was teased last month when Mike swung by Sway Calloway’s SiriusXM radio show. It divided opinions then, and that hasn’t changed.
Joined by rappers Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J on “23,” the current queen of Twerk raps about “perc” — short for percoset, a prescription pain killer — Air Jordans and general partying.
But while Mike, who co-wrote and produced Cyrus’ chart-slayer “We Can’t Stop,” says Miley “killed it” on “23,” others disagree.
In the slipstream of Twitter, @BenJ_828 thought the rap was similar to a Canadian teen idol who is also trying his hand at rap spots. He wrote, “Now playing @MikeWiLLMadeIt – 23 Miley sounds like Justin Bieber rapping on this one.”
“I can dig Mike WiLL Made It’s 23. Not a game changer, but not a flop,” opined @MIKEfrancesconi, adding, “What’s with all these white girls with no flow rapping? #Miley #Gaga.”
“Miley should never try rapping again…it wasn’t terrible but she just doesn’t fit the part of a rapper,” @30_smn posted.
@MikeOfDoom got all ominious, writing, “bruh. Miley Cyrus rapping on this 23 song. The world has already ended and we are dwelling in the earths remains.”
Others took a different view.
@allisonmarie94 enthused, “What’s better than Miley stripping? Miley rapping #loveher (sic)..”
“I wouldn’t class her as rapping, but Miley sounds sick on this track 23, as well as my baby Wiz ofc,” added @suzannesidhu.
“You thought Miley was cool/ratchet/hot/whatever before… wait until you here her rapping on this song,” @JOPRO50 praised, while @SweetSINaMINnut also approved, “Miley better work…she not to bad at this rapping s— #23.”
For his part, Mike Will Made It got stuck into retweeting online reaction today. Offering few words in response to Miley’s “23” detractors, in one tweet he wrote,
“@_A_M_B_E_R_1: @MikeWiLLMadeIt shoulda just had Miley singing on 23. She’s not a rapper. Not a fan”to predictable.. loosen up

Meanwhile Miley isn’t letting VMA’s backlash after her twerk pas de deux with Robin Thicke rain on her, or anyone else for that matter, rain on her parade. After laying down a gauntlet to her fans by promising to unveil the tracklist for her forthcoming album Bangerz if her video for “Wrecking Ball” beat out One Direction’s VEVO “Best Song Ever” record of 12.3 million views in 24 hours — her ‘Smilers’ nation did precisely that.
Cyrus naked-fest punched in 19.3 million views in one day, beating her previous 10.7 million June record with “We Can’t Stop.” The grateful singer tweeted thank yous and released her tracklist on Twitter.
Y’all did went so above and beyond with wrecking ball ? I love you so much and thank you for breaking the vevo record!!!

An array of big names will appear with the “23” star on Bangerz. Among them, Britney Spears, Big Sean, Nelly, Future, and French Montana.
And the big news continues. Miley has just been confirmed as a host and performer on SNL next month and her MTV documentary Miley: The Movement airs on October 2.
