Stephenie Meyer: Twilight’s (Early) 10th Anniversary Makes Her Feel …
Stephenie Meyer is as surprised as the rest of us that it’s been a full 10 years since Twilight was born. Yes, Twilight is 10 years old. How does that make you feel, reader?
Old? Meyer, too.
Despite admitting to being “over” the vampire franchise that made her a household name and worth an estimated $125 million, Meyer commemorated the 10th anniversary of Twilight by explaining the “true” story behind the story on her website.
Of course, it’s not so much a new “true” story as it is a slightly more detailed account of what we already know. Meyer had a dream one night about a vampire and an average girl in love, yadda yadda, you know the plot. She woke up and immediately got to work on the novel series which became a successful film series and eventually became frenemies with Robert Pattinson.
Also, Twilight won’t actually celebrate its 10th birthday until 2015, according to pop culture (the first book was published in 2005). Meyer is jumping the gun by two years because she counts 2003 as the series’ incept date (that’s when she started working on it). Alright.
Anyway, woe-is-Stephenie says that the anniversary of her signature work makes her feel pretty old.
“It feels like I’m super, super old,” she wrote.
“Like 10 years? Oh, my gosh, I don’t know where it went. But it’s amazing to stop and think back to my life 10 years ago and how drastically it has changed. I just wouldn’t have seen any of it coming. If you had told me back then, ‘Ten years from now you’ll be promoting a movie you produced,’ I’d have been like, ‘What drugs are you taking?’ It’s so bizarre.”
