Michael Vick Makes Controversial Call, Hands Redskins A Touchdown

Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick promised a fast-paced game ahead of Monday nights showdown with the Washington Redskins, and that is exactly what they delivered. Chip Kelly’s offensive at times was frantic, up-tempo, and exciting, but an opening drive that almost yielded a touchdown turned into 7-points for the Washington Redskins.

On first-and-goal of the Redskins’ four-yard line Michael Vick attempted to swing a pass out to LeSean McCoy. Instead of completing the pass Ryan Kerrigan batted the ball to the ground. His teammate DeAngelo Hall then picked up the ball and ran 75-yards for the touchdown.

The ruling on the field was that Michael Vick had thrown the ball backwards, thereby leading to a fumble when deflected by Kerrigan.

A lengthy review was called and referee Ron Winter ultimately decided that their was not enough evidence to overturn the fumble and the touchdown.

Michael Vick’s controversial pass was shown in several replays by ESPN,and those replays made the controversial play look like he had thrown the ball forward.

Former NFL referee Gerry Austin declared that he thought Vick had thrown from the 9 1/2-yard line and Kerrigan had made contact with the ball at “about the 9-and-one-quarter” mark.

A tweet from @WorldOfIsaac shows a snapped photo of a forward pass:

NFL rules state that the original call on the field must stand if there is not enough conclusive evidence to overturn the play.

Do you think Michael Vick made a mistake, or did NFL referees drop the ball on the play.
