Katherine Heigl Heading To NBC In CIA Drama
It’s official, fans of Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy will be seeing a whole lot more of Katherine Heigl. Heigl’s new show, which she will produce and star in, has landed at the peacock network.
As we reported, Heigl’s CIA procedural show was being pitched around to various networks, and it looks like NBC won out in the end. We didn’t really think ABC had a fighting chance, given its history with Heigl, and the fact that ABC is already busting at the seams with other drama series’.
The CIA show, which is untitled right now, will be written by Alexi Hawley of the FOX hit The Following, and will follow Katherine Heigl as a CIA analyst who will debrief and strategize with the commander-in-chief on global and national issues. Whether or not we’ll see some Jack Bauer-like explosions is unknown, but either way it still seems like a high stakes show for Heigl. That said, it’s much different from her past projects in television, like the WB teen drama Roswell, and her five season run on ABC’s medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.
Although it isn’t sure if NBC will officially pick the series up for an order, Heigl does have their attention as they have acquired the rights to the CIA drama series.
During the announcement that Heigl’s show is heading to NBC, the star said:
“I am thrilled and honored to have been asked to be a part of developing these stories and this character and bringing it all to life. NBC has been a true partner in their passion and support for the show that we’ve dreamed of making and I could not be happier about joining forces with them. Together, with our brilliant writer Alexi Hawley, I believe we are going to make great television!”
In addition to Heigl and Hawley, Rodney Faraon, who has work experience in the field, will be an executive producer on the show.
