William Shatner Celebrates Star Trek’s 47th Anniversary
On September 8, 1966, the first episode of Stark Trek aired on NBC. The iconic series has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years thanks to a few new movies and stars like William Shatner and George Takei are still riding the success of the sci-fi program
Shatner woke up this morning and sent out a quick birthday message to the landmark show.
Shatner writes: “Good morning and Happy Anniversary to a show I was fortunate enough to be a part of! @StarTrek”
William Shatner stayed away from the Star Trek convention scene for years but Captain Kirk is starting to give back to his fans. He has already made a few appearances this year and earlier this week he made a “historic appearance” at Comic-Con when he joined Adam West (Batman) on stage.
Shatner said earlier this year: “I realized that I was ignoring a large segment of the population. They were the people I should pay the most attention to. The vast numbers of people coming to these conventions… There are some wonderful fans out there, large numbers of them.”
It’s been 47 years since Star Trek first aired but Shatner is still, and forever will be, known as Captain Kirk. But that doesn’t mean that the actor isn’t exploring new creative endeavors. He recently released that he would be releasing a progressive rock album.
But today’s focus isn’t about William Shatner’s music career. It’s about Star Trek.
